LEGACY

Over 700 million years ago the battle for Earth raged across the solar system.

Now, the beginning of the end is here.

In a time before man, a war raged that consumed the solar system and changed our universe forever. Two worlds, two moons, and a race that refused to be subjugated by an advanced, but barbaric enemy, came men willing to destroy all for a chance at finding a new world to call home.

1945—the German SS races to bury a find that had once been the hope of the Nazi regime for conquering the entire world. Now that discovery is killing thousands. Buried with the magnificent treasure was a curse left there by beings of horrific designs.

Today---on a mission to discover water on the moon, an accident sends a NASA robotic probe over the edge of Shakleton Crater where its fall to certain doom is halted by an object buried in the lunar dust----a spacesuit, inside---a humanoid skeleton. The ensuing investigation soon uncovers the startling fact that the remains are millions of years old. Along with this unbelievable discovery comes the fact that the crater is strewn with weaponry the likes of which our world has never seen.

The race is on for the nations of the world to return man to the surface of the moon for a prize that will alter our future forever. Amidst religious rioting and assassination, humankind is thrown into a greed driven drive for a dead world---but one that holds the key to man’s survival.

Enter the Event Group, the nation’s darkest federal agency tasked to discover the truth of the world’s past. Colonel Jack Collins is ordered to discover the truth of what happened over 700 million years before, a truth that changed Earth’s destiny for all time.

The battle for Earth is again joined, and this time the Event Group may be too late to stop the destruction of our race; a war that was planned 700 million years ago.

I can't wait to read this one and am really annoyed that I can't buy it on my Kindle (presumably coz I live in Australia). And of course, the books don't seem to be released in normal book stores here. Am hanging out though!!! I do have a concern about Sarah, however. As a woman, I do like a bit of romance in my action thrillers and the way Mr Golemon has written the love story between Jack and Sarah is fantastic. I haven't read this one yet but I'm terrified he's going to do a "Matthew Reilly" and kill Sarah off. Reilly's explanation was that he wanted to see how Scarecrow would cope after losing the love of his life... we don't need to know how Jack would cope... it would suck... please don't do it!!! And yes, I know it's fictional, but I've just fallen in love with these characters. Thank you for an awesome series of books

Just finished "Legacy." Overall, it was an excellent entry into the Event Group series!
[Spoilers ahead, for those who haven't read the novel!]
A couple of minor details irk me, however. First, the religious fundamentalism subplot in the beginning of the book. I found the escalating violence and anti-space travel attitude very hard to believe. As an ordained minister and military chaplain, I simply don't see such tendencies and attitudes among religious people day to day. While this may be acceptable thinking for secular people who look down upon religiosity, it is slightly offensive and insulting for thinking religious people, especially since there are many involved in the world of NASA, JPL, etc! In 50 years of space travel (around 1960 through 2010, give or take), how many religious people have been against exploring the heavens? I just can't recall those protests!
Additionally, this subplot (which does not reflect well on the otherwise precision plotting by Mr. Golemon) never gets into the "why" Rev. Rawlins is so against travel to the moon to investigate 700 million year old humanoids. If this is because of a commitment to the "Genesis creation" account, I'm at a loss at to why human remains older than current evolutionary theory would depict them, would be a threat! This does not seem a well-thought out plot threat, as opposed to a convenient "straw man" villain thrown in.
Finally, I see fingerprints of "Battlestar Galactica" all over the place: humans from the stars exploring the Earth and Moon eons ago, threatened by large, nigh-invulnerable robots.... Fun stuff, but does this really fit in the Event Group saga? I'll have to wait for the next entry to find out!
Thank you, Mr. Golemon, for most of a thoroughly enjoyable "fun read!"
